Governor Nathif Meets FCDC Team. Calls for Paradigm Shift in Drought Management

CALLS FOR PARADIGM SHIFT IN DROUGHT MANAGEMENT.

H.E Governor Nathif Jama has called on the Swiss Development Corporation through the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) to support the County Government in doing dryland irrigation farming at Waso Plains in Lagdera sub-county.

The Governor said the project which is part of his manifesto will utilize harvested rainwater and underground sources where viable. Up to 1,000 vulnerable families will be resettled on the 10 hectares project land. Two-thirds of the land will be used for growing of food crops and the other one-third for growing livestock fodder.

Gvn. Nathif was speaking when he met with Abdirahman Abass and Farhiya Ali of FCDC at his office when they paid him a courtesy call during a working visit to the County.

He urged FCDC to seek development partners who would do mega resilient intervention projects for mitigation of droughts to cushion the region from the now perennial drought.
