Garissa Governor H E Nathif Jama today pledged to reform the ailing health sector in Garissa County.

Speaking during the opening of the County Assembly first session of the year 2022,the Governor said the sector will soon regain its lost glory.

He reminded members of the Assembly that, having served as the first governor in Garissa county he invested massively in the sector that was rated second best country wide during his first term in office.

“This wss as a result of impressive investment in human resource, equipment and infrastructure” said the Governor.

He said his administration plans to undertake immediate development initiative to bring back health services to advanced level better than its earlier level during his first term.

The Governor envisaged on plans of urgent strategic measures to reduce child /mother mortality rates in the county.

Other targeted programs in the sector mentioned by the Governor included enhancement of access to merternal health and reproductive health in all sub county health facilities, renovation of all existing laboratories, maternity wards, dispensaries, mortuary facility, theaters, X-rays centers and creation of this facilities in different parts of the county.

He further promised improved ambulance services, focus on maintainance and repairing of the grounded ambulances and acquiring new ones on need based.

The Governor assured members of the public implementation and comprehensive e-health policy and strategy with the objective of enhancing the use of ICT in supporting health sector transformation.

He further pledged to roll out a holistic matters of staff adequacy and proper welfare including training and promotions.

The Governor also announced plans to improve the education sector for quality childhood schooling and advancement vocational training centers for youth empowerment.

The assured members of the Assembly his unwavering commitment to support the county assembly to achieve its mandate.
