The International Women’s Day 2023 was marked today in Garissa.

The County Government in partnership with the Garissa County gender technical working group celebrated the day at Iftin Girls High School, Garissa Town.

The chief guest was Commissioner Sara Bonaya of the Kenya National Human Rights Commission.

This year, the theme is “Innovation and technology for gender equality”. It seeks to raise awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also making a call to action for strengthening gender equality and accelerating women’s empowerment.

Other dignitaries who attended the event included Hon. Hawa Abdi CEC Gender, Hon. Zahra Musa CEC County Affairs, Hon. Ebla Minhaj CEC Education, Abdiwahab Ibrahim Regional coordinator National Gender and Equality Commission, Zeinab Ahmed UNICEF, Hon. Fatuma Hakar Nominated MCA, Hon. Khatar Iman Nominated MCA and Deputy Speaker & Iftin MCA Hon. Musdaf Abdirashid among others.
